Water damage can happen to any property. Home Mechanix, LLC is a dynamic team of professionals that can mitigate potential issues and protect your investments. Home Mechanix is fully insured and bonded and will get your building up to FEMA compliance. Evaluations are always free!

Home Mechanix, LLC has a Class B contractors license. We know FEMA mitigation codes and have successfully mitigated over 500 homes in Hampton Roads. We understand the diagrams of structures and the approach required to make properties compliant with the NFIP.

We have implemented several processes that make the mitigation paperwork headache much easier. One of which is a report that we provide for our customers called the Flood Mitigation Compliance Report. Our FMCR has all mitigation notes required by FEMA & the underwriters and gathers & displays all work performed by HMMX between the homeowner, the surveyor, the insurance company involved & with the underwriters, helping make the certification of the structure compliant. This has proven to be a tremendous help for all involved. Also Home Mechanix was a semi-finalist with RISE in 2018, 1 of 7 out 52, chosen for a patent pending idea that Home Mechanix presented for flood mitigation. We have currently filed 5 patent-pending devices that are directed toward flood mitigation, one of which our latest, we will be publicly displaying soon as game changer, market disrupter, for crawl spaces that flood regularly….stay tuned.

Testimonials:
Ron Gorton, Golden Oyster Marine Services

We were moving and installing reef modules in record time. Installation of Natrx’s ExoForms is a straightforward process where everyone is able to work together quickly, safely, and efficiently.

Natrx has gone above and beyond for us. With their Natrx Assess capability it’s unbelievable what they can do—From providing an in-depth, ten-year history of site conditions, to understanding exactly where to place reefs for maximum impact at minimal cost.

Wayne Savage, Senior Engineer, Bay Design Group

We started with a plan for a traditional stone breakwater and the project cost was out of reach. Natrx put together an approach that was not only cost effective but also enhanced the look of the shoreline while protecting it from very large storms.

You have rock – that everyone has always thought was the be-all, end-all – and then you get this new product from Natrx and it outperforms rock in big storms.

Lewie Lawrence, Executive Director, Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission

By working with companies like Natrx, we can offer more efficient technologies and design more effective solutions that are also cost effective. To be viable in the flood mitigation space, new solutions can’t be costly. The solution has to match the pocketbook.

The speed with which we can address coastal issues with Natrx versus having to pile up rocks is a significant advantage. Our contractor was able to deploy 80 feet per day of custom Natrx ExoForms weighing 800-plus pounds each. It’s unheard of to be able to protect that much shoreline that quickly.

Natrx is easy to work with because they’ve been in the space longer than other companies and have the practical experience required to tackle all the challenges associated with addressing these issues.

Natrx is a Recognized Leader:

Natrx founders have over twenty publications and five issued patents for advanced nature-based coastal protection, and have deployed over 50,000 tons of biogenic living shoreline solutions in the past 15 years.

Our approach has led to meaningful work with some of the biggest names in infrastructure protection and sustainability science:

Mike Vernon – The Flood Fixer

About:
Mike Vernon is uniquely positioned: he’s a realtor, a flood-insurance agent, a mitigator, and a consultant. Based in coastal Virginia, he helps property owners navigate flood risk, building codes, insurance, and real-estate challenges for “environmentally stressed” properties.

His Four Service Centers:

  1. Real Estate

    • As a licensed Realtor, Mike works with buyers, sellers, investors, flippers, and more – especially when flood risk, zoning, or environmental regulation might complicate the deal.

    • He offers consulting on things like variances, Letters of Map Amendment, erosion control, and other mitigation strategies so properties in flood zones remain marketable.

  2. Flood Insurance

    • He specializes in providing flood coverage for “environmentally stressed real estate” – including coastal homes, apartment complexes, HOAs, and small commercial buildings.

    • He leverages both traditional NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) policies and private flood-insurance options, and he designs mitigation strategies (like wet/dry flood proofing) to help reduce premiums.

  3. Flood Mitigation

    • Mike has designed over 1,500 flood-mitigation projects, aligning FEMA code, building code, and insurance requirements to make older structures more flood-resilient.

    • His mitigation work includes flood vent installation, elevating mechanical systems, basement removal, landscape erosion control, rainwater management, and both wet and dry flood-proofing.

  4. House Lifting

    • For more extreme risk, he offers full house-lifting services – working with clients to secure FEMA grants, coordinate movers, contractors, surveyors, and real-estate professionals.

    • After raising a structure, he helps re-certify it (e.g., with updated elevation certificates), potentially lowering insurance costs and increasing long-term resilience.
